Nicholas Cifuni entered private practice after a twenty-year career with the New York City Police Department. During his tenure, he rose to the rank of lieutenant, serving in the NYPD Detective Bureau, Organized Crime Control Bureau (Narcotics and Auto-Crime Divisions), and Legal Bureau.  While serving as a Lieutenant, and elected union delegate, he was appointed to the Executive Board of the NYPD Lieutenants Benevolent Association (LBA), where he represented police supervisors in various civil service matters.  He culminated his police career at the New York City Police Pension Fund where he was appointed to the executive position of Chief of Staff, where he was responsible for the administration of police pensions in the largest uniformed agency of the City of New York.  Mr. Cifuni retired to practice law in 2003, joining Mr. Ungaro's predecessor law firm, where he was made partner. Mr. Cifuni, a founding partner of this firm, devotes his considerable qualifications toward assisting active and retired government employees with disability and other civil service issues.  Mr. Cifuni is the trial counsel for the firm and is regularly in court, successfully arguing cases in the federal and state courts up to and including the State's highest court, the New York State Court of Appeals.
