Robert Ungaro entered private practice following a distinguished career in public service which began at the New York County District Attorneys' Office, and culminated at the NYC Department of Investigation. He was appointed, during the Giuliani administration, to head the office of the NYC Fire Department Inspector General during the tenure of Commissioner Howard Safir. He retired in 1996, to form the law firm of Seelig & Ungaro where he practiced disability law for thirteen years, devoting his attention between complex disability litigation and civil service issues. Mr. Ungaro formed his current firm in 2010, which, represents three NYPD Unions. A seasoned advocate, he has successfully represented clients in well over 4000 matters, many of which concerned NYC police officers and firefighters injured in the performance of duty. He is admitted to the bars of the state, federal District and Circuit courts of this jurisdiction, and the Supreme Court of the United States. He is a member of the New York County Lawyers Assoc., New York Social Security Bar Assoc., National Organization of Social Security Claims Representatives, and the Fraternal Order of Police. His articles on disability issues are regularly published in Bar Association, Police and Firefighting publications.
Nicholas Cifuni entered private practice after a twenty-year career with the NYC Police Department. During his tenure, he rose to the rank of lieutenant, serving in the NYPD Detective Bureau, Organized Crime Control Bureau (Narcotics and Auto-Crime Divisions), and Legal Bureau. While serving as a Lieutenant, and elected union delegate, he was appointed to the Executive Board of the NYPD Lieutenants Benevolent Association (LBA), where he represented police supervisors in various civil service matters. He culminated his police career at the NYC Police Pension Fund where he was appointed to the executive position of Chief of Staff, where he was responsible for the administration of police pensions in the largest uniformed agency of the City of New York. Mr. Cifuni retired to practice law in 2003, joining Mr. Ungaro's predecessor law firm, where he was made partner. Mr. Cifuni, a founding partner of this firm, devotes his considerable qualifications toward assisting active and retired government employees with disability and other civil service issues. Mr. Cifuni is the trial counsel for the firm and is regularly in court, successfully arguing cases in the federal and state courts up to and inluding the State's highest court, the NY State Court of Appeals.
Daniel S. Jaffe joined this firm in 2010. He represents clients claiming benefits from the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund, the New York City Police Pension Fund, and the Social Security Administration. While completing his juris doctor at New York Law School, Mr. Jaffe was a Co-Chair of the New York County Lawyers Association Tort Committee, and interned with the New York City Law Department’s Tort Division, Manhattan Trial Unit. Mr. Jaffe graduated from Princeton University with an artium baccalaureus in History, and is admitted to practice law in the state and federal courts of New York.
